Avatar - The Last Airbender Movie

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a martial arts based animated television series that has won multiple awards. It is one the hottest programs in the Nickelodeon network line-up.

Recently, M. Night Shyamalan, of sixth sense fame, announced that he plans to adapt the Avatar animated martial arts series into a live-action martial arts film. Sci Fi Wire recently posted an interviewed with him concerning this new martial arts based project.

"It has martial arts and spirituality and the supernatural,"More Info

My son and daughter are huge fans of the Avatar series and I have been known to sit down and watch it with them.

It is very interesting how they have melded actual martial arts with the cartoon characters airbending skills.

I hope the live action martial arts film is as fun to watch as the cartoon series has been. :)

Update: **September 2009**
I just found the trailer on youtube. Check it out and let us know what you think. -Kuma

I Don't Know What to Say
by: Anonymous

I love The Last Airbender TV show. My grandkids got me addicted to it, and I think it deserves every award it has won. I have been eagerly anticipating the movie debut along with the grandkids, but I was dismayed after I talked to them recently. They were upset that in the trailers characters such as Katara and Sokka played by white kids. Clearly the anime artists intended the four nations to be multiracial. I did explain to the kids that the characters are based on Asian and Asian-Pacific cultures, and that there are many races among them. So it's hard to understand why they didn't preserve this element.

But I don't know how to speak to the kids' concerns. I want them to grow up in the real world, but without a chip on the shoulder. I thought about explaining how actors audition for roles, but as we all know, there are actors of every possible racial and ethnic group available. They did a great job of casting in dealing with this issue in the Harry Potter movies--but who knows if they would have bothered if JK Rowling didn't describe the characters so vividly? The makers of The Last Airbender may have made a colossal blunder here.

my opinion of Avatar: The Last Airbener Live Acton Movie
by: Khalen Powell

Bruh i love avatar. none of the characters look like who they are.katara and sokka are white when they should be black. Aangs character doesnt look like who he is.

**********Kuma's Response***************

I certainly can understand where you are coming from, but this is the challenge any movie has when It is remaking something that already exists. Finding the right actor(s) with the right look can be hard. Not every good actor will sign up for something like this.

Hopefully they have done the best possible and we will have to see how it all fits together once released. Good point though, thnks.
