Stun Gun in Check Baggage
by: Trent 'Kuma' Warner

There are many prohibited types of items not allowed in airline baggage leaving the United States.

These items cannot be transported on-board the aircraft in either your carry-on or checked luggage.

Stun guns and compressed sprays, along with adjustable batons are often strictly prohibited in both checked baggage and carry-on baggage while traveling internationally.

If such a stun gun is found with you by the officials of other governments, you may face serious inspection and/or detainment.

Items prohibited by laws, regulations or restrictions by countries in your travel itinerary and/or items identified as unsuitable for carriage because of weight, size or nature.

Dangerous goods that endanger the aircraft, persons or property on-board the aircraft such as:

1. Compressed gases, e.g., canned butane, scuba oxygen bottles, paint in spray can, insecticides, liquid nitrogen, aqualung cylinders, etc.

2. Corrosives, e.g., acids, alkalis, mercury and wet-cell batteries.

3. Explosives, e.g., munitions fireworks, flares, ammunitions, etc.

4. Flammable liquids and solids, e.g., lighter fuel, paints, matches, thinners, fire lighters, etc.

5. Radioactive materials.

6. Briefcases and attache cases with built-in alarm devices.

7. Oxidizing materials, e.g., bleaching powder, peroxides, etc.

8. Poisons and infectious substances, e.g., weed-killers, insecticides and live-virus materials.

9. Other dangerous articles such as magnetized material, offensive or irritating materials (such as knives, swords, offensive sticks, clubs, arrows, tear-gas, stun guns etc.)

Click here for the latest stun gun regulations published by the TSA (U.S. Transportation Security Administration)

Ultimately it is your responsibility to check with the airline and TSA for an exact list of items prohibited for carry-on.
