Gaston Sierra Celebrating his first mma win Gaston supporting his club and one of their fighters

On Saturday, October 2nd, 2010, I attended Throwdown Round 6 amateur mixed martial arts event. I had a great time speaking with some great mma fans and meeting some of the mma fighters. One of the mixed martial artist I had a chance to meet was Gaston Sierra. He and his family sat down next to me after his match and allowed me to take the picture of them. (above)

This was Gaston's first MMA fight. I had a chance to interview him via email after the mma event. Here is what he had to say..

Trent 'Kuma' Warner asked...

"Gaston, How long have you been training in the martial arts and how many fights have you had?"

Gaston replied..
"Saturday, October 2nd was my first fight, not just in the ring, but my first fight, period.

I am 19 years old and have never fought in school or on the street, never been picked on or put in a situation that would require me to defend myself in a physical manner.

I Never did sports in school, I did a lot of theater though in middle school and 2 plays and one musical in high school, and never did like contact sports, Until February 21st, 2010; that was when I first stepped into the Central Illinois Combat Club's gym in Canton, IL and I was hooked, it was such a rush.

I met a lot of new people that at first I had nothing in common with and now I'm part of this very well known mixed martial arts fighting team in these parts and I wouldn't take it back for anything in the world."

Kuma..

"What weight class did you fight in at Throwdown Round 6?"

Gaston..
"I fought in the Middleweight division, weighing in at 173 pounds and I have been training for almost 8 months come the 21st of this month.

Thank you for taking an interest in our show and I hope to see you around for the next time, don't know when yet."

Kuma..

"Thank you Gaston, we look forward to seeing you at the next Throwdown MMA Event."
