Martial Arts Directories

"A Comparative Examination of different Martial Arts Directories"

There are many diferent directories that feature a martial arts section and everyone has a favorite. The two major directoriies on the internet today are Yahoo and DMOZ (Open Directory) both of which have martial arts sections.

Many Search Engines provide directory results, in addition to their own Search Results and most use one of the two major directories listed above.

Directories are different from Search Engines. How?

It is all in how they aquire there listings. In general, most directories do not use a spider program to index pages. Instead humans review each listing, indexing what they deem as an acceptable martial arts resource.

The best way to understand directories is to view them as gigantic bookmark lists. In the early days of the internet the human-compiled directory model was the way surfers found what they were looking for.

While most directories today are simply too slow and inefficient to keep up with the rapidly growing internet and the queries cannot provide the breadth of diversity and relevance of search results that the major Search Engines can.

Directories do still have some relevance, today. Especially if they focus on a niche (such as martial arts or a specific location).

The value of smaller directories with niche related martial arts sections is not the amount of listing they present, but instead the focus of these smaller niche and martial arts related directories.
